The maiway.us and maiway.com domain names are owned by Daryl & Libby Mai, and of course the names are derivatives of our last name. Mai, as we pronounce it, rhymes with "eye".

But what about other occurrences of Maixxx names?   The word "mai" in German translates to the month of May, and we've been told that it does the same in Vietnamese and French.

Maifest is the traditional German celebration of the arrival of spring, and is still celebrated throughout Germany with the maibaum (maypole) decorated to show off the history and crafts of each town.  Maifest is celebrated in many cities in Texas that have a strong German heritage, such as Fredericksburg and New Braunfels.  Often times, a specialty beer called "Maifest" is served.  Every May, a Maifest is held at the Anhalt Dance Hall, located near the town of Bulverde Tx, which is not far from our residence.  The Anhalt Dance Hall dates back to 1879 when the area was first settled by German immigrants. Many different types of events are still held there, but most are either Country Western or Polka parties/dances.

The Mai lineage for Daryl has been traced back to the 1600's in Germany. In the late 1600's, a family of Mai's immigrated from Germany to Russia with the promise of land and freedom from oppression. They thrived for almost 200 years until the changing political climate and religious persecution forced them to once again seek new land and freedom. In the late 1800's, a number of Mai families immigrated to an area south of Russell Kansas where they homesteaded and prospered.  This is the area where Daryl is from.  Other Mai families immigrated to the west coast and Mexico, and over many generations, descendants of these families have spread throughout the United States and probably other countries.
